Just down the tollway, take the Forest Lane exit, turn right on Inwood road and you'll find your new favorite whiskey bar and classic date night restaurant, Republic. I live in Oak Cliff, so I often forget about this side of town. Although that particular Petsmart is where my puppers go for their checkups, I never realized there was such a gem over on that side of the Dallas world. Over the years, I took note of the Rusty Taco, and the bagel shop - and of course a Chick-fil-A with a continuous minivan line around the block - but little did I know there was a Dallas dining gem just waiting to be discovered.
If you already know about Republic, then you've done a great job in keeping a secret from me. They have a beautiful, large bar that anchors the restaurant. A bar in a restaurant sets the tone for your dinner. If it's lively, your dinner will be fun and upbeat facilitating easy conversation. A quieter bar, and your in for a more romantic dinner. The bar had a great vibe and certainly boosted our moods. I don't t think we stopped smiling - that could have been the amazing service (ahem.- or the whiskey).
There was a large party that had rented out their private room while we were there. Crazy enough, I wouldn't have even known they were there if I hadn't gotten up to go to the bathroom. Their private area has sliding doors that close when someone rents that space.
Although we just enjoyed cocktails and some apps (and dessert, duh) they have a huge menu you'll want to come back time and time again to sample. Also, their whiskey and bourbon selection has over 50 options available for their guests!!
Here is a mini tour of our dinner!
(Of course though, we started with cocktails. What do you think we are, rookies??)
We had an assortment of apps...
Spicy Tuna Cones with yellowfin tuna.
Followed by the baby back pork ribs with a Texas peach glaze.
Then the bourbon glazed meatballs with jalapeño cheddar grits.
And finally the INSANE Prince Edward Island Mussels that actually had chorizo and a chili hollandaise!
We then had a bit of a nightcap, each of us picking a whiskey to enjoy on the rock. And I do mean, rock singular, because they serve the whiskey over a large circular ice cube so it doesn't water down the whiskey quickly.
Add Republic to your list for the holiday season.
It's a great place to have a double date, girls night out or even better take the parents and make them treat *wink wink*
