I was asked to participate in the #PatioVida campaign, sponsored by On The Border. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.
My favorite things in life are chips, salsa, queso, margs and patios. Bonus points when I'm able to combine all of those things. We are smack dab in the middle of patio season here in Dallas and there's nothing better than kicking back after a long work day and just chilling on a shaded, breezy Dallas patio while nomming on my favorite foods.
One of the most colorful, festive patios with delicious, reasonably priced margaritas and amazing happy hour specials (spoiler alert: queso is on their happy hour) is On The Border. They have tons of locations in DFW, and I'm certain there is one convenient to you! I like to head there right after work and let the traffic die down.
Chips and salsa > Dallas standstill traffic.
My fiancé and I visited the location in Irving last week. The tables were an assortment of colors: white, blue and yellow. We had our choice of tables, so I picked yellow. My mind always thinks INSTAGRAM PIC - and I knew the yellow would really pop on Insta. You gotta do it for the gram, y'all! #CameraEatsFirst.
We were instantly greeted with chips and salsa. Hey girl hey!
We each were given our own salsa, which is always fantastic. I don't know about you but I tend to have a very selfis salsa to chip ratio. Lots-o-salsa, very little chip. Needless to say, I'm always thrilled when I get my own dipping bowl!
As we chipped and dipped and grooved to some patio tunes, we browsed the cocktail menu. I had heard through the grapevine about a new, seasonal, WATERMELON margarita they were offering and I knew I had to try it. It is offered on Thursdays for just $4, and my server offered to pop in a corona bottle for just an extra $2.
SOLD - to the girl with the selfish chip to salsa ratio!
My date went for the classic margarita and we also ordered queso because you're doing it wrong without cheese on your chip.
We like to share a bunch of different plates when we go out and eat, so we get to try as much stuff as possible! Plus, leftovers are the gift that keeps on giving.
In addition to a cup of the signature queso, our server suggested the new firecracker stuffed jalapeños. We nodded and also ordered the cheese and onion enchiladas with chile con carne and the Dos XX® Fish tacos!
At On The Border, they do your side items family style which I think is fantastic. We ordered the family style black beans and the family style Mexican rice!
*Bonus points when your nails match the table!
On The Border had delicious food at a great price. The patio provided the perfect ambiance to enjoy a frosty, ice cold watermelon margarita and fish tacos. I felt like I was somewhere tropical, and it was for sure 100 times better than sitting in Dallas Friday evening traffic! We hung out for a couple of hours and as we did the patio really began to fill in! It was such a fun vibe out there, the perfect place to sip a cocktail with friends and just chill out. We didn’t feel rushed in the least!
Check out an On The Border in your neighborhood, and be sure to sit on their patio. Bonus: some On The Border locations will even have live music on Thursdays! Tag your Instagram photos (and that fab yellow patio table) using #PatioVida! Plus, take their cute little quiz to find out which food and cocktail pairing is right for your next visit!
